Our projects

Where the money and the muscle actually go

Everything below is run by volunteers from the club, often alongside local schools, shops, faith communities and other Lions clubs.

Diabetes

Awareness stalls, screening signposting and fundraising walks that help neighbours spot the risks early and live well with diabetes.

  • Free blood-sugar and blood-pressure checks at our community health stall
  • Walk for Diabetes fundraiser with neighbouring clubs in District 105A
  • Diabetes awareness talks and leaflets at local schools, shuls and community centres
  • Supporting Diabetes UK research and the Lions worldwide Strides programme

Vision

Recycle for Sight: collecting used spectacles from opticians, libraries and places of worship, then sending them to be graded and redistributed where they are needed most.

  • Recycle for Sight — spectacle collection boxes at local opticians, libraries and places of worship
  • Funding cataract operations overseas through Lions Clubs International Foundation
  • Message in a Bottle and large-print materials for residents with sight loss
  • Supporting guide dog training and Vision Aid Overseas

Hunger

Our main hunger work locally is serving Christmas dinners to homeless people. Alongside that we raise funds that help Lions tackle hunger both nationally and around the world.

  • Christmas dinners for homeless people over the festive period
  • Fundraising for Lions Clubs International Foundation hunger and disaster relief
  • Supporting national and worldwide Lions appeals when emergencies strike
  • Occasional collections with other clubs and local partners when a need arises

Environment

Litter picks, tree planting and support for environmental projects that keep Golders Green a green and pleasant place to live.

  • Community litter picks around Golders Green and the surrounding parks
  • Tree and bulb planting days with local schools and residents' associations
  • Spectacle, stamp and printer-cartridge recycling that funds our other projects
  • Supporting Lions worldwide environmental photo and planting campaigns

Childhood cancer

Fundraising for children's cancer care and small practical comforts for young patients and the families beside them through treatment.

  • Fundraising for children's cancer wards and family accommodation costs
  • Comfort packs, toys and books for young patients during treatment
  • Supporting LCIF childhood cancer grants that fund treatment and research

  • Collecting and funding shelter, water and hygiene kits after major disasters
  • Supporting the Lions humanitarian response for Ukrainian refugees
  • Working with other UK clubs on national emergency appeals

Humanitarian efforts
